The Best in Business award is presented to the business.  Nominations are accepted by the Best in Business Award Committee and reviewed on the basis of the three criteria listed below.

Success in the industry

Hausmann is the largest independent, non-brokerage property casualty agency in Dane County.  The commercial lines division is its largest segment, insuring over $2,000,000,000 of assets.  The company also specializes in employee benefits, insuring over 500 corporations in Dane County.  Each employee is paid on a percentage of revenue basis and annual bonuses are based on percentage of profit.  In addition, the company has developed and trademarked its own information-management systems:  DesignLynx, SkyLynx, and Starclass.

Workplace environment

Hausmann performs personality analysis on finalists for all positions in order to minimize turnover and maximize talents of employees.  Each associate is expected to complete 24 hours of education in business and insurance topics each year in addition to the state licensing educational requirements.  Employees receive health, life, dental, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) and Flex Plans.  Hausmann offers summer hours, casual Fridays, education reimbursement, and holiday parties.  Some outstanding events are:  Dog Days -- Each Friday, one employee brings their pet to the office; Thirsty Thursdays -- one Thursday per month, Hausmann sponsors a social event at one of its client's establishments; Hausmann distributes tickets to staff for Badger sporting events and Kohl Center activities; and, every three or four years, the company provides an all-expenses-paid vacation for employees who meet professional goals set for the year.

Community involvement

Memberships:  Hausmann is a major sponsor of the Canterbury Run/Walk for Literacy, including sponsorship of employee participation.  Over 50% of its employees volunteered this year for the United Way Day of Caring.  VP of Sales Rob Long serves on the board of Community Adolescent Programs.  The company underwrites various programming on Wisconsin Public Television.
