Melody's Story

Melody Hope grew up in Iowa and her first career was in nursing. This career path exposed her to health insurance claims and Melody found that she had an interest in learning more about the insurance industry.

Eventually, she moved to Madison where she married John and raised two children, Sarah and Sam, of whom she was very proud.  She began working for Hausmann-Johnson Insurance in 1992 and it wasn’t long before she was offered ownership in the agency. Under her leadership, the Employee Benefits department grew into one of the strongest and most successful in the Wisconsin area.  Melody was often the voice of reason in management meetings, had very high ethical standards, and kept everyone focused on doing right by the client. She served on the Executive Management Committee and the Board of Directors of HJI for many of her 23 years with the agency.

Melody had many hobbies and interests. She was a prolific knitter who loved to share the fruits of her labors with others. She also loved children and talked about how one of her greatest desires in retirement would be to volunteer in a children’s hospital. She felt that this was an area where she could make a positive impact and give back.

Sadly, Melody never had the chance to participate in that volunteer work as she lost her fight with cancer in August of 2015.

Because Melody never had that chance to volunteer in retirement, we have taken it upon ourselves to volunteer our time, energy, and talents on behalf of the American Family Children’s Hospital. We can think of no finer way to honor her memory. She was a good friend, a mother, a wife, a vibrant spirit, a kind and generous person, and a wonderful colleague who will never be forgotten.
